Lake effect不知道要延续到什么时候, 天气预报每一天显示的都是雪花, 这周注定是要继续埋在雪堆中了. 幸亏气温没有上两周那么夸张, 至少华氏还是有两位数的, 不过还是很冻的. 出一个门是最麻烦的事, 通常要花上5到10分钟来铲雪热车, 然后还要担心路上没有铲雪路滑而慢慢地行驶. 几年前还记得自己和Dr. Singh (我们系的一个教授) 说了一句还是挺经典的话: "Heating up the car for 10 minutes for a 5-minute trip". 还好现在家离学校比较远, heating up 10 minutes for a 20-minute trip应该还算比较好吧.
刚才从实验室出来, 看到雪堆有如白色沙漠堆在路旁. 费了一番力气越野式地从这沙漠爬到车旁, 在开门拿出道具来给车"干洗"一番. 当时突然领教到铲雪其实也是一门学问, 而今天上了的"课"是铲雪的时候要知道风向, 不然如果顺着风扫, 雪就迎着你的脸吹来. 嗯, 又长了小小的智. 一样的, 摸了半天把车从雪堆中退出来, 然后也让车越野式地磨回家. 今天的雪确实很大, 而且没完没了的, 积了好几寸的雪在地上. 庆幸的是撒盐的手脚很快, 马路上的雪还积得不算多. 其实路上的盐可以起两大作用: 第一当然是降低水的冰点, 促使雪的融化; 另一个好处就是增加路上的摩擦阻力. 后者今天我用上了, 一个十字路口的交通灯在我差不多摸到路口的那一刻转黄灯. 看着一滩雪在眼前, 还在犹豫煞不煞车的时候灯已转成红的 – 这时真的只好煞了. 听着车轮和地上的盐摩擦发出的声音, 车停下来了. 其实还好当时也紧急挂了二档.
有一个fact可以比较明确的就是: 生活在Buffalo如果开车开上一段日子, 他绝对是顶尖的驾驶人, 也就是说基本上没有其他地方会比Buffalo的路况更差的了. 当然要factor out一件事, 就是Buffalo的人开车都是温柔型的, 所以只能说Buffalo开车的在控车方面是比较好.
今天看到Nicole写了另一句也算是挺经典的话: Skiing is literally "pain in the ass". 嗯, 对于初学者确实很对, 而生活在雪堆中, "pain in the ass"确实是理所当然的事. Nicole, good job! 呵呵.

主持人开始说"If ‘how to save a life’ becomes ‘how to save a wife’", 我以为他在开玩笑. 后来说了这个乐团怎么"相依为命", 把其中一个人的wife救回来. 没说因为什么事而要"救"回来, 确实是挺伟大的. 他说这首歌点播率在电台还是最高的. 听过, 只是不知道是这么有意义的歌, 虽然自己还不至于那么伟大, 还可以救一个人. 在Youtube上看了一下MV, 有一个版本是穿插Grey’s Anatomy的剧情的, 不知道是不是和这个连续剧有关系. 拿了金球奖的Best TV Series, 还是挺想看一看的, 虽然在电视上有看过一两集, 也没仔细看, 感觉还是挺不错的.
越是忙越多话说, 近来真的很奇怪. 看来我的忙里偷闲的方式好像就是对blog说话. 挺沉闷的, 希望读者不会抗议了.
